Our Verdict. I had 15, files to share with it, mostly photos, and this took some time. Every time it crashed it wants to refresh the servers. However, and this was a big however, I bought it from DSL-Warehouse, but their returns policy insists that a case number is received from the manufacturer i.
Netgear, so I had to contact Netgear support. This was an absolute nightmare. I can honestly say, this is the worst support I have ever experienced.
Dropped connections, passed from one department to another, difficult accents, I had to repeat the problems to 6 different people, and I was on the phone for more than 1. Eventually they agreed it needed replacement. The support was so bad that this alone will stop me from buying Netgear again. So what now? The Dlink DSM gets good reviews. Or maybe I should dig deeper in my wallet and go for the Xbox that everyone raves about, even though I have no need of the games function.
Hi rhubarbe, we meet again. I've read a lot about the Tvix but it's not really what I'm after. I don't really want to mess around transferring files from HD to HD. The SH acts as a streamer, you know. You aren't forced to have a HDD inside it if you don't want, as long as you use the later firmware. I'm hanging on for a PH from mpcclub. I also have no use for iTunes. Do you have the link to the review? I now have to admit to myself that I made a mistake in buying this, it's rubbish.
It seemed to take ages to start up, the menus look horrible and it then kept locking up whenever I tried to navigate the menus It did manage to play a DVD ok, but I don't need another DVD player! I've packaged it back up and intend to go back to the shop this weekend and ask for my money back, I never normally do things like that as I find it a bit embarrising, but I'm so dissapointed with this that I really don't have any other option.
Oh dear mate I was also going to buy this on an impulse last night on my way home from work. Wait another 20 seconds for loading to complete. Directional buttons: Navigate in menus. Left or Right, go to previous or next page in long lists.
