Windows 98 network password problem

Install the appropriate adapter for your network card. To install a protocol, follow the steps below. To disable the password in Windows 95, 98, and ME vary if it's connected to a local network, such as at a school or small business.

When following the steps below, upon rebooting the computer, you may get a Network login; if you want to remove the password never enter a password, only enter the username. Because of different setups, the user may need to do one or more of the steps below to disable the Windows 95 and 98 passwords. If the recommendation above does not work, download and install TweakUI. Open TweakUI and click the Login tab. In the logon tab, uncheck the option labeled log on automatically at system startup.

Think I will wait for better instructions. Screenshot of each registry would help here. I will also find out how to backup and restore my Windows 7 before I edit it. Hi, I wonder if some one can please help me. I have a similar problem, but I am using MS virtual pc on windows 7 to run windows I get the some problem, asking for a password. I have read not just the above posts, but others on other forums and it has been suggested to change the LMCompatibilityLevel to 1.

The problem I have is this file seems to be missing. I looked both on my desktop pc and notebook, I can not find this file in order to change the value, is it hidden. I have followed the path carefully many times, and did a search, but it does not appear to be where it should be. My solution was to buy and install a network printer running on Ethernet, it would have worked with wifi also, but I don't like wifi being on all the time.

My problem was not file sharing, as my W98 is a virtual pc running inside W7, so I can drag and drop files. I bought an Epson SXW, I have to say I did not like the instructions that came with it, and it took a factory reset to get it to appear on the router, but it does work very well. I dont beleive you will be able to share w7 printer with W I tried for ages, but did not work.

MS would need to do something about it, I doubt they will. I treid a usb to ethernet adaper, the one I had said it would only work with single use device, IE printer only, not scanner, so in the end I got an Ethernet printer.

Maybe one day there will be a way, I read loads of posts with people having problems and did not find one where the printer was being shaired with W The aamount of time lost is not worth the cost when compared to buying either a wifi or ethernet printer, going to a router.

I would think almost everyone has one of these today due to broadband use being shared with the family. By joining you are opting in to receive e-mail. I have a laptop running Windows 98 that has recently started refusing to connect to mapped drives on our Windows XP server.

When I try to connect, I get prompted to supply a password, and then I get the message The password is incorrect.

Try again. I can connect to the same mapped drives using the same logon information from XP machines, so I know the logon details are correct. I have tried creating a new user profile on the laptop, but it makes no difference. Can anyone help - I am getting desperate! Can you clarify - this was working? The 98 machine needs client for microsoft windows installed and preferable as its primary logon and you need to supply those credentials to it not escape out for example.

If they're not, obviously set it up as described. Thanks for taking the time to respond. The trouble is that it is my daughter's laptop, so I do not actually know when the problem arose - she just kept on using it without telling me. All submitted content is subject to our Terms Of Use.
